There has been a recent uptick in Kia and Hyundai car thefts due to social media videos demonstrating how to break into these vehicles. Kia models from 2011–2021 and Hyundai models from 2015–2021 are being targeted because they do not have engine immobilizers. Kia and Hyundai are aware of the unfortunate situation and have declared willingness to partner with certain local police departments to provide customers with a steering wheel lock at no charge. Both manufacturers have combatted the issue with engine immobilizers for model years 2022 and newer.
